AUDI LAUNCHES A4 BLACK EDITION

Audi has launched the Black Edition of its upper medium A4 saloon and Avant estate.

Historically the A4’s most popular trim level, the manufacturer said more than 50% of customers opted for the Black Edition with the previous generation model. Audi also claims the Black Edition models add up to £550 of equipment.

Specification over and above SE trim includes the firm’s Safety and Service system, which adds an emergency call function, online roadside assistance and service request functions and a flat-bottomed multi-function steering wheel.

Black Edition Sport models add an upgraded multi-function steering wheel, a seven-inch colour infotainment screen that replaces the original five-inch monochrome version, heated front seats and part-leather upholstery. S line models add leather and Alcantara heated seats.

Cosmetic features include 19-inch matt alloy wheels (18-inch gloss black items are available as a no-cost option), rear privacy glass and a titanium black styling pack, comprising the mirror housings, grille and window surrounds, side skirts, rear spoiler and air intakes. Avant estates also get black roof rails.

Prices start at £32,350 for the 1.4 TFSI 150hp manual saloon and top out at £44,350 for the 272hp 3.0 V6 TDI quattro Avant, with an eight-speed tiptronic transmission.

In addition to the A4 updates, Audi has made cruise control and rear parking sensors standard equipment to every model in its range from the A1 supermini upwards, as part of its 2018 model year updates.

It also overhauled engine and trim options for the range, which it claims have “resulted in rationalised model choice lists and a simpler and more consistent portfolio of optional equipment packages across the board”.

Among the changes are an updated version of the company’s Technology Pack, offered across all models, which now includes the digital Audi virtual cockpit and Phone Box with wireless charging, MMI navigation Audi connect infotainment services.

A new Comfort and Sound Pack has also been introduced across the range and, depending on the model, includes either front parking sensors or a reversing camera, hill hold assist, a BOSE or Bang & Olufsen sound system and either heated front seats or keyless entry.
