Why should I want it?
It’s not just the numbers that make the Mercedes-AMG C63S extremely appealing, although more than 500hp and a 0-60mph time of 4.1 seconds do generate a whole load of ‘want’. But it’s the guttural 4.0-litre twin-turbo V8 in an easy-to-use everyday package that really brings the C63S to a peak. The fact it’s in a C-Class Estate body is a bonus that means not only can you and the family enjoy this pace, but the family dog can too.
Why can’t I have it?
In all honesty, it’s the fuel consumption that will stop this getting on more fleet lists. The official 28.2mpg is though close to our real-world 25.8mpg over 1600 miles.
Arguments to use on the fleet manager
It’s a sensible family estate car with a 490-litre boot and it looks, sort of, just like the other C-Class Estates, so won’t put too many noses out of joint.
More fleety alternative
For almost £25,000 less you can have the C43 Estate, which is nearly as quick (0-60mph in 4.8 seconds) and has the added bonus of four-wheel drive for security in slippery conditions. It’s also a little bit more fuel efficient with a combined figure of 29.4mpg.
