Why should I want it?
The first Toyota to appear on this Fleet of Fancy page, and it’s something of a surprise that it’s the little Yaris. Until you realise that the GRMN – which stands for the catchy Gazoo Racing tuned by the Meister of the Nurburgring – breaks through the 200hp and the £26,000 barriers. Which both sound like a lot; it’s got almost 100hp over any other Yaris.
Why can’t I have it?
It’s a Toyota Yaris for entry BMW 3-Series money, and it’s not the subtlest, thanks to the rear spoiler, Toyota Gazoo Racing-inspired decals and centre-mounted exhaust pipe similar to that of the Yaris World Rally Car.
Arguments to use on the fleet manager
Only 400 of the special-edition Yaris GRMN will be built for the whole of Europe, making it as special as the price implies. It’s a nimble little thing that sounds lovely, and GR will become Toyota’s sportier trim level going forward, with different alloys and body upgrades.
More fleety alternative
It’s less exclusive than a limited run of 400, but the new Ford Fiesta ST is grabbing attention as a great hot hatch. It’s got a sub-£22,000 price tag and emissions of 136g/km, but still has in excess of 200hp.
