Kia Sportage - At a glance car review
The second-generation of Kia’s big-selling crossover is vital to the recent growth of the brand. Petrol or diesel, manual or automatic and front- or four-wheel drive, the main company car engine is the 114hp 1.7 diesel, which gets below 119g/km. GT-line spec adds some further visual lifting of the styling, and the Kia Sportage leads the Korean manufacturer’s assault on the company car sector.
Fairly stylish, though the design is more divisive than the first generation car, and it’s good value for money. The seven-year, 100,000-mile warranty is appealing, while boot size is decent without being class-leading.
Engine refinement and handling aren’t up with the class best.
Ford Kuga, Nissan Qashqai, Renault Kadjar, Seat Ateca
Mazda CX-5, Suzuki Vitara
Appealing and good value, the Sportage illustrates how Kia is able to compete on a level playing field with the biggest volume brands in the business.
