Lexus has launched its BMW 5-series rivalling saloon, the ES, which is priced from £35,150.
The ES replaces the GS saloon, however, it has previously been sold in Europe. The new model is built on a new platform.
In the UK, just one engine will be available – a 2.5-litre petrol-electric hybrid powertrain which produces 215hp and returns 48.4mpg – 53.5mpg, depending on the version, while it emits 100g/km of CO2 when equipped with 17-inch wheels – speccing the vehicle with 18-inch wheels and 19-inch wheels increases the vehicle’s emissions to 103g/km of CO2 and 106g/km of CO2 respectively.
The powertrain is mated to a CVT transmission and is only offered in a front-wheel drive guise.
Three trim levels are offered: ES, F-Sport and Takumi. Entry-level models are fitted with sat-nav, heated front seats, imitation leather upholstery, front and rear parking sensors and a reversing camera.
F-Sport versions feature larger 19-inch alloy wheels, leather sports seats and adaptive suspension and the range-topping Takumi version adds an electric tailgate, a 12.3-inch infotainment display, a sound system, a 360-degree camera and power reclining rear seats.
All versions are fitted with Lexus Safety System+, which includes autonomous emergency braking and adaptive cruise control.
