Mercedes-Benz has revealed a compact SUV concept, called the GLB, which is designed to sit alongside the GLA coupe.
While the GLA has been designed to offer a dynamic ride, the GLB concept focuses on a roomy interior and can seat up to seven people.
The GLB is the first Mercedes compact model to feature a third row of seats that can be lowered to increase carrying capacity, with the firm claiming they are “far more than emergency seats”.
In terms of the styling, the vehicle features LED lights and short overhangs at the front and rear, while the vehicle also features chrome front and rear under guards which “emphasises the off-road qualities.”
The dashboard, meanwhile, is similar to the B-Class and includes a widescreen screen with functions controlled via the company’s MBUX infotainment system.
The Concept GLB is powered by the M 260 four-cylinder petrol engine which is mated to an eight-speed dual clutch transmission, with a maximum output of 224hp.
“We asked ourselves whether there is still space between the GLA and GLC in our successful SUV range. The Concept GLB is the answer to this question. With it we are demonstrating the creative ideas we have for this segment, too”, said Britta Seeger, member of the board of management of Daimler AG, responsible for Mercedes-Benz Cars sales. “The Concept GLB is a durable and practical SUV with nonetheless compact dimensions. Whether it is a generous, seven-seater family vehicle or a versatile leisure time companion: we are certain that this concept will be of great interest to our customers.”
