Four more cars gain maximum NCAP crash rating
The Ford Mustang Mach-e, Hyundai’s Ioniq and Tucson and the Toyota Yaris Cross have all been awarded the maximum five stars in the latest round of Euro NCAP crash test results, while the new Hyundai Bayon missed out on the full five stars thanks to the lack of a centre airbag. The baby crossover does though come with what Euro NCAP described as “robust crash protection and crash-avoidance features which help to secure it a credible four-star rating”.
The safety organisation also announced that the addition of standard seatbelt reminders for all occupants have promoted the Ford Transit and Ford Transit Custom to gold level in its light commercial vehicle ratings.
ALD Automotive and Leaseplan in merger talks
Two of the UK’s biggest lease operators are in merger talks, with Leaseplan and ALD Automotive confirming negotiations to become a “global mobility leader”.
Any agreement will be subject to regulatory approval, and in the UK would create a new leasing giant, with Leaseplan ranking fourth and ALD fifth in terms of UK leased vehicle volume. Their combined figure would match the 325,000 of Lex Autolease.
Engineius promotes Slowther to new MD role
Vehicle movement specialist Engineius has promoted former commercial director Calum Slowther to its newly created role of managing director as the business continues to grow.
Slowther was the first employee recruited by Engineius when it formed in 2017 ahead of its 2018 launch, and now assumes control of the day-to-day running of a business that provides “tech-enables vehicle movements to clients across all automotive sectors”, including corporate fleets, rental, SMR, leasing and remarketing.
“We have a huge opportunity ahead of us after making a great start, which has proven the strong demand for the service we have brought to market,” said Slowther. “Our mission for the next phase of our growth is clear – we will demonstrate that we can give customers the same control and confidence as they would get if they operated vehicle logistics in house, but with the flexibility of sharing a now very large network with many other clients and the enhanced user experience our technology stack provides them with.”
