EV charging prices ‘vary massively’

The cost of driving an electric vehicle can massively vary, with the cost of recharging at some outlets nine times more than at home, according to new research.

An analysis by the RAC Foundation found overnight charging at home can typically be done for as little as 8p per kWh but can be as high as 69p per kWh at a public rapid charge point, meaning that the fuel costs for a 100 mile journey in a 2018 Nissan Leaf could be anywhere between £2.67 and £23.

It said Chargemaster’s Polar network offered the lowest cost for both fast and rapid charging (18p per kwh and 25p per kwh) and that Ecotricity – at 39p per kwh – was the most expensive fast-charging network, while Ionity was the priciest rapid charging network, at 69p per kwh.

TfL to introduce 20mph limits

Transport for London is to bring in blanket 20mph speed limits across its road network from Monday as part of what it called a “significant move to reduce road danger across the capital”.

The new 20mph speed limits will be enforced across all TfL roads within the Congestion Charging Zone – including Millbank, Victoria Embankment and Borough High Street – following a public consultation.

The mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, said: “I am absolutely determined to do everything I can to eradicate all deaths and serious injuries on London’s roads and these new measures are a vital step along the way to helping us to achieve this.’By cutting speed limits on TfL’s roads within the Congestion Zone we are saving lives, while at the same time making our streets more appealing for Londoners to walk and cycle around the capital.”

Masternaut signs new telematics deal

Michelin-owned telematics firm Masternaut has signed a deal to supply its equipment to commercial vehicle fleet services company Fraikin.

As part of the deal, Masternaut will be supplying its telematics to one of the ‘big four’ supermarket’s fleet, which consists of 3,000 vans, which is one of Fraikin’s clients.

The decision to appoint Masternaut came after a six-week trial. Masternaut stood out amongst several of Europe’s leading telematics suppliers for its robust data security and enterprise-class analytics, delivering unmatched results during penetration testing, it said.
