Round-Up: Facelifted Niro on sale, ALD MD to step down, Skoda Superb teased

Facelifted Kia Niro on sale now

Kia Niro

The facelifted Kia Niro hybrid and plug-in hybrid model has gone in sale with prices for the hybrid starting from £24,590 and the plug-in from £31,945.

Changes include new bumpers at the front and rear as well as new LED lights, while the revised Niro is also being fitted with the company’s Connect telematics system.

According to Kia, the system provides live traffic information, weather forecasts, points of interest, fuel prices, and details of potential on- and off-street parking – including price, location and availability.

Paul Philpott, president of Kia Motors UK, said: “The Niro has become a key growth driver for Kia in Europe and is a cornerstone of our electrified product strategy. New enhancements to quality and design, and the adoption of our ‘connected’ UVO system, will make the Niro family an even more compelling proposition.”

ALD’s Dawson to leave company

Mel Dawson, ALD Automotive UK’s managing director, is to leave the company after 22 years at the end of the month.

Dawson – who became MD in 2012 and has since doubled the company’s fleet size to 145,000 vehicles – will be replaced by Tim Laver, who currently holds the position of director of finance and risk.

“With a clear strategy ahead, our digital foundations laid and an exceptional management team in place, I felt it was the right time to step aside as the company looks to take its mobility offering to the next level,” said Dawson.

Skoda has shown a sketch which hints at the design of the fourth generation Superb flagship model.

The vehicle is set to be unveiled later this month during the IIHF Ice Hockey World Championship, of which Skoda is the long-standing main sponsor, in Bratislava, although little is known about the vehicle at this stage.
