Technicians and salespeople head the list of company drivers whose cars and vans are being fitted with telematics devices, according to research conducted by Arval.

The finding comes from the 2019 edition of the Arval Mobility Observatory, which covers 3,930 organisations and asks a wide-ranging set of questions about fleet and mobility trends.

When asked about which drivers had telematics equipment fitted to their vehicles, respondents said engineers (54%), salespeople (30%), perk car drivers (28%) and delivery drivers (28%) while 43% accounted for “others”.

“Falling costs, easier implementation and overall effectiveness have all seen a dramatic increase in telematics adoption in recent years. However, there is limited information available about how this technology is being used. Our findings therefore make interesting reading,” said Shaun Sadlier, head of Arval Mobility Observatory in the UK.

VWCV launches online leasing tool

Volkswagen Caddy 2017

Volkswagen Commercial vehicles has launched an online platform that allows van drivers to lease new vans online.

The service lets customers pick their desired model and calculate a suitable finance quote online for stock vehicles and they can then speak to a member of the Contract Hire team to place an order, VW said. Once finance is approved, the customer can select a dealership for collection or arrange delivery direct to their door.

Users will also able to search for vehicles and configure quotes based on the desired term, mileage, deposit and maintenance package, VW added.
